A road linking Saudi Arabia with neighbouring Oman will be completed by the end of this year, the former country’s transport minister was quoted as saying.
Currently, the only way to travel between the two countries via road is by driving via the UAE – a journey of approximately 2,000km.
The stretch of road that connects Saudi and Oman via the Al Batha border will be around 519km long. It will pass through Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter, one of the world’s largest sand deserts.
Jabarah bin Eid Al Surari said that he expected the new link to boost trade and tourism between the two GCC countries.
